The balancing act

The balancing act

Before I got a job, I thought that working and going to school at the same time would be a piece of cake, but recently I’ve found myself having trouble finding a balance between the two.

I work everyday besides Wednesday and I’m in honors classes, so sometimes I have way too much work and not enough time to do it. When I do go to work I go straight from school, so I don’t even have a moment to stop and think about what assignments I might have to do when I get home. Most days I’m up late at night just trying to catch up on work or study for tests or quizzes I might have the next day. Some days I might have had so much stuff to do at my job, that I completely forget about my homework.

I’ve been trying to come up with better techniques in order for me to be able to balance everything out. I have started to write down all my assignments and use Google Classroom to my advantage when it comes to remembering what I have to do. As far as my job goes, I’m going to start working less so I have more time in my schedule to get my school work done. I realize school is the most important thing, and I’m willing to go as far as to quit my job in order to maintain my good grades, but hopefully I can create a more flexible schedule before having to go that far.

I also realize that if I focus a little harder than I am and not slack off so much, I could get everything done on time. As long as I continue to realize what’s important, and how I want my GPA to be at the end of the year, I will get it done

There’s many things that interests me as a career path, but nursing seem to be the one that I can’t get out of my mind. I like all that comes with nursing. I want to first go to school to become an RN and work my way up to a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. I like working with children. I also like the idea of being able to be there for them while they are trying to get better. I want the children to be able to have someone to look up to and know someone cares about them and their health.

I believe becoming a nurse is the best thing for me and always will be. I like to assist people when need be. I am a very social person so working with so many patients will be a breeze for me. My personality is also great so I think the people who I work with will enjoy it. When my patients are going through a stressful time I can cope with that and be there for them when they need me. I can put up with all the cons of being a nurse because I already know what I’m getting myself into. Some days may be harder than others, but I know I can get through it and bring my patients out of their misery or at least try and help them be in a better state. I know for many people being in the hospital is stressful and overwhelming, and I hope to be a calming presence. People don’t want a rude nurse and someone who doesn’t understand them, and that’s why I’m going to strive to be the best nurse I can be.

One of the main reasons I want to be a nurse is because of my mom. She went to school to be a nurse and she told me a lot about what nurses do and go through. It’s not too much I can’t handle. Also, when my mom gets older I want to be the nurse who takes care of her instead of having one come out to the house. She has medical issues, and I want to better understand them so I have been doing a lot of studying. Most people only want to become a nurse because of the pay. I will say nurses are paid good, but that’s far from the reason why I’m becoming one. As soon as I’m out of high school I’m going straight into college to knock school out the way and be a nurse at a very early age. I want to be very successful and move to the top with it and save up for my future, and my children’s future (if I have any).

Recently I have been dealing with a lot of self judgment about how I act, and the things I say. Instead of focusing on the things I dislike about my personality, I’ve been trying to focus on the things that will make me a better person overall.

The number one thing I’m trying to work on is how quick I am to talk without thinking first, it gets me into a lot of trouble. I always realize after the fact, nine times out of ten, what I said really wasn’t smart and I always end up having to do damage control, when I could have just avoided it all together; I’ve been doing this since I was young, and I think it’s because I always want to be right, which is something else I hope to change. It’s very hard for me to admit when I’m wrong or need help, which usually just makes whatever the situation is worse, and whoever I was talking to angry or annoyed. If I just start owning up to my mistakes, it would eliminate a lot of the problems I have with other people. The next thing I know would make me better, is if i gain overall self control when it comes to my anger.

There’s many things in this world that makes me irritated, but the problem is when I let that small irritation, turn into a lot of anger. Despite how much I talk, I rarely let a person know when I have a problem with them, so over time the small problems I have with individuals, turns into a lot of anger with I have with everybody. When I get angry, I blow up at any and everybody around, and say things I don’t truly mean which causes me to sever a lot of relationships I have with people. I hate that I do this because I don’t even stay mad long, as soon as I’m able to voice how I’m feeling it’s over for me, the problem no longer exists.

I just hope to become a more mature person, I like to think I already am, but I know there’s much more I hope to work on before l become stuck in my ways. Changing these qualities will not only help me become a better student, but it will help become a much better person, and overall help me in life.

When I get older I want to become a nurse. I haven’t really figured out what kind of nurse yet. Most likely an RN, which is one of the most common nurses for people to become. There are several types of nurses and they all are great jobs, but an RN interests me the most.

An RN is a registered nurse. This means a nurse who has graduated from a nursing program and met the requirements outlined by a country, state, province or similar licensing body to obtain a nursing license. An RN’s scope of practice is determined by legislation, and is regulated by a professional body or council. Nurses can work anywhere, which is a great thing because I can travel and work at the same time. Also some hospitals, depending where you practice at, might offer you a job at the end of your schooling. This is an easy way to get a job and it shows that they see how good of a worker you are.

I’ve always wanted to be able to help people ever since I was little. I would always take care of my family whenever they were sick just to practice because I love making others feel better. Also watching shows that would have to deal with hospitals or having medical attention in some way would always interest me. When I would have to go to the hospital or even just a regular check up at the doctors, I would sit there and watch how everything would work.

My plan for the future is somewhat already in action. I would like to go to the University of Toledo and get my bachelors. After that I might take a gap year and get everything settled for where I want to be in that time. To get my masters I would love to go to the University of South Carolina. That school has always interested me with its medical program. Plus my aunt lives down there so I could just live with her while at school.

Later down the road I might want to move up and get my doctoral degree. If I like nursing i might move up to try and become a pediatrician. I love kids and babies so becoming a pediatrician would also be a great job for me. I’ve been good with kids my whole life. I get asked to babysit all the time because i’m really good with them. Either way becoming a nurse or a pediatrician will excite me because I’m helping people and that just want I want in my future job, to help others.

I still have to go and try to schedule campus tours for both schools. But I have been taking classes now in high school to help me later on for being in the medical field. I really just enjoy helping others and making them feel better so hopefully my dream job of being in the medical field and becoming a nurse comes true.
