Rock the Arena II

By Christopher Cook / LifeAtStart.com Reporter

Toledo’s Savage Arena held its second Rock the Arena on Saturday, March 25th. Rock the Arena is a concert where rock bands, mostly successful in the 80’s, can play and give some of the true rock fans a great show.

Last year Trixter, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Dokken, Winger, Warrant, Ratt, and Bret Michaels performed. Though I did not attend this I can assume it was good judging by the the lineup. Warrant and Bret Micheals probably brought it to a good end surely making it worth the stay.

This year Rock the Arena II brought out some new names as well as some returning from the year before. The lineup brought 10 bands this year. Billy Morris and Sunset Strip, Trixter, Autograph, Vixen, Jack Russel’s Great White, Stephen Pearcy, Quiet Riot, Warrant, Cinderella’s Tom Keifer, and Cheap Trick. I was very excited to find out I had a ticket to go and enjoy these performances. With Trixter and Warrant returning, and then groups like Great White and Autograph performing for their first time in Rock the Arena, it looked to be a very good show ahead.

As the day started I arrived at the end of Sunset Strip’s performance and they played well for the song I heard. Trixter and Autograph played after them and I really enjoyed them. I was glad to see Vixen play and do very well. Their group is all girls except the one guy, playing piano, that they hid in the dark corner of the stage. Great White played great and definitely had one of the top two stage performances because the singer was dancing around with the mic stand.

Unfortunately Stephen Pearcy didn’t play as well as I expected, I found myself dozing off more times than not. Once Quiet Riot played I quickly woke back up and got to enjoying the music with the help of their singer, former American Idol 4th place finisher during the 10th season, James Durbin. He had a great performance and it definitely hyped me up for Warrant, the main reason I wanted to go.

Warrant was the best of the performances that I watched and they definitely knew what they were doing bringing banners and all. I left shortly after Warrant due to fatigue after staying for eight hours, though two bands played after them. I didn’t stay to listen to Cinderella’s Tom Keifer or Cheap Trick. I’m sure they played well and had people on their feet till the end of it.

The performances this year really thrilled me. Hopefully they will have a Rock the Arena III because I would love to go again. I think if you haven’t heard any of these bands and have free time you should check into going next year, or even looking them up on YouTube I promise you won’t be upset.

T-Racer the Overwatch speed car

By Dom /LifeAtStart.com Reporter

I think I have a lot more fun-writing articles about Overwatch character reviews. I hope no one minds too much.

Anyways, when I started Overwatch I didn’t know which character suited me the best in terms of style, comfort, and skill level so I went to someone I knew from the cover of the game – Tracer.

Tracer is fast and fragile, almost like a dog, a small dog. Tracer is an attacker and is usually played to go behind and around her targets to basically annoy them and focus the healers. Overall she’s very unique due to her speed and her recall (a move that causes to go back in time 4 seconds any damage done to her is erased and her health returns to what it was 4 seconds prior).

Tracer has a unique ultimate, a sticky bomb. The bomb does exactly what you think, it attaches to a enemy and detonates, blowing anyone it latches to in an area of effect. This can kill multiple people but it has a timer before it explodes so it is usually easier to dodge.

When I found Tracer I realized how fun the Overwatch experience was going to be – something different. Playing her over the course of about eight hours of gameplay has been very adventurous and full of laughter and satisfaction. I highly encourage you to play Tracer if you love to move fast and get things done yourself.

cy·ber·bul·ly·ing
The use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature.

There are many forms of bullying, but the most common form of it is cyber. If you own a phone, tablet, or computer you are at risk of being a victim of being harassed online.

Here are some tips on what to do if you are in the presence of an online bully:

1. Tell a trusted adult about what is happening. Whether the bullying is happening to you, or someone else, an adult can help stop it.

2. Report the messages that are being sent. If you report the situation, the website may delete the bully from the page.

3. Block the bully. If you block the bully, they won’t be able to reach you.

4. Ignore them. What they are saying is not true and you shouldn’t let it get to you.

Always remember that you are not alone  in your fight. If you are in a bullying situation, talk to someone.

The bullied spider

By Dom / LifeAtStart.com Reporter

About a month ago I started playing the hyped up shooter game known as Overwatch. The game can be competitive, loose or just in all whatever you want it to be. There’s a huge diversity of heroes in the game to choose from each with their own talent or job.

A specific character that interests me is Widowmaker. She is a difficult sniper to understand, but she gets the job done if played correctly. You are free to choose any character but when you pick Widowmaker you are highly bullied by the community.

I’ve taken this into account and spent about 5 hours of my weekend playing as her. I would like to say I had fun, but as for my team they would feel otherwise. Overwatch is an overall team game, and your decisions impact the game completely. So when I picked Widow they figured I was “trolling” aka throwing away a free game. I told them I was learning how to play her but they would hop in front of me and get in my way to ruin my shots.

Widowmaker could be legendary in areas, but when people bully a player into not playing a specific hero just because it didn’t fit their standards, it doesn’t seem fair. I use the term “bully” because, along with people interrupting my shots, they can also get on voice channel and call me out specifically for their choices.

This surprises me because, like I said before, Overwatch is a team game so it couldn’t have just been my fault.

If you pay $40 for a game, you should be able to play however you want.

Keep calm and Widowmaker on
