Why have an apple when you can have a burger? There are more than 13,000 McDonald’s restaurants in the United States itself, and there are over 8000 KFCs in 80 countries, this shows the popularity of fast food all over the world.

Food that is prepared under quick circumstances is defined as “fast food”. This type of foods fit in perfectly in the lifestyle of a  busy person who doesn’t always have time to sit down and enjoy a wholesome meal. Those who are against fast food focus on the negatives of how bad it is for you and how it is prepared. Despite all the debate about rather fast food is good for you or not, read this article and tell me you opinions.

The most known advantage of eating fast food is it saves time. There is nothing better than getting a meal that all you have to do is sit down and eat it. The time you have to spend in the kitchen, cooking the meal, or going to the grocery store you could be using more wisely. Besides saving time fast food also saves money. If you are a student, unemployed or just on a budget fast food can come in very handy. These low prices have caused suspicion of what the ingredients in the food are and what the nutritional value in the food is. Fast food may raise some health concerns, but if your careful you can find some options on the menu of a fast restaurant that are healthier. Most corporations such as McDonald’s and Chic-Fil-A have nutrition facts on their website.

Even if what they are serving us is not as healthy as we think, fast food is supposed to be a quick meal not an everyday meal. If your lifestyle is already unhealthy you can’t blame fast food because you are gaining weight. So before you go saying fast food is the reason you cant fit into your wedding dress, or run the trail without loosing breathe ask yourself how is my lifestyle? If you ask me I would rather choose a baconator over a salad any day as long as I know when to stop eating unhealthy.

The Teaching Dead

October is the time of year for teachers and students to show off scare skills, in a way of promoting their classes, groups, clubs, etc.

Our career tech department took advantage of the occasion.

These teachers wanted to get our attention through Halloween decorations, so they got zombified. By using the app “Dead Yourself” they made themselves look like flesh loving monsters, and displayed the posters in the hall.

“These classes are to get you job-ready after school,” woods teacher Jeff Bernard told me. “They’re classes to teach good skills to know at home, too.”

The tech classes give you hands-on experience on how to maintain basic woodwork, electrics and autos.

The zombie teachers were a fun, and creative way to catch our eye, and spark interest in those courses.

Check out these horrifying posters, and ask about the tech department in the multicolored hallway.

Shopping, a girl’s best friend, well, at least in my opinion. The one thing that can make a bad day turn into a good one.

Sometimes I wish I had a black card every time I went to the mall. It’s hard to just shop for one or two things, once you get inside a store you want everything. There are days when you can’t pick between which item you want so you just pick them both, or the days when you see something really cute but then the price tag makes you change your mind.

Shopping can be very stressful. When you can’t seem to find the perfect shirt to go with those pants you bought the other day. Or those times when you can’t seem to find the best outfit to match the theme for the football or basketball game.

My mom hates shopping with me. I spend up to 2 hours in one store just to walk out with 2 pair of pants and maybe one shirt if I’m lucky enough to find one to my liking. She doesn’t seem to understand the thought process that goes on in order for me to shop. Thinking in your head “If I bought these pants, what would look good with them and what will I wear them with?” or “These shoes are cute, which outfit will look best with these?” or maybe even “This shirt is not that cute, but I will look cute in it.” Trying on pants and they don’t fit you how you would like is the worst.  The looks deceived you and you want to cry because now you have trust issues.  Eventually, you do find those perfect pants and now you need to find the perfect shirt or life just won’t feel complete.

Once I find the perfect outfit, I can’t just leave. Accessories make the outfit and I must get them. After about 2 hours in the store, I finally have the outfit that’ll make the best Instagram picture. After I put it on Instagram, I can no longer wear that outfit. It’s in the code. So, I basically spent 2 hours in the store and wasted money that could’ve been used for snacks just for a collaged picture on Instagram that will hit 100+ likes. It will all be worth it though. Since I must keep Instagram updated, I will go back to the mall and repeat the process.

There’s no better feeling than having a successful day of shopping.

Everyone says your senior year is the best and easiest year of your high school career.

But, with having to apply for college and scholarships, trying to maintain good grades for your application, and worrying about getting a good score on the ACT, it could also be the most stressful. But, don’t fret, LifeAtStart is here to help you get through your senior year unscathed and completely ready for your life after high school.OGT_image1

The first obstacle you have to overcome is taking or retaking the ACT. By suggestion of the counselor you could have taken it your junior year, so that if you were unsatisfied with your score you could improve it later, but waiting for your senior year is just fine.

Signing up for the ACT is easy. An efficient website to use to register is actstudent.org. All you have to do is create an account, fill out a few things about you and your grades, and then pay. You have two paying options, either $54 if you decide to include the writing section and $38 if you don’t.

The ACT can be a scary test, it’s hard, important, and timed. But, there are lots of ways you can get prepared for taking it. One simple way is to ask someone who has taken it before, just to get a general sense of what you’ve gotten yourself into. Or go see your counselor, they can give you a booklet with more info on the ACT and a practice test in the back. And lastly, the most helpful option, online practice tests. You can create an account on March2success.com, which gives you an abundance of different practice tests to try out, most of which are timed to get you used to having strict time limits.

The next test is December 13 and the deadline isn’t until November 7, so you have plenty of time to sign up.

The ACT is an important test, but it’s nothing you can’t handle and I believe anyone who tries their hardest will do great.
